HORIZON
Where the world continues beyond our sight.
Sunset was the most anticipated moment of the day.
It was the time when the young dragons climbed to the highest terrace of the Archive to watch the sun’s slow farewell. The sky changed without haste, shifting from gold to amber, from rose to violet, until the horizon blazed with a deep crimson glow.
Auryn loved that final moment most of all.
The last shade of light, the one the sky kept before yielding to the night.
His eyes followed it until the very last glimmer disappeared beyond the sea.
“Every evening it seems to vanish over there...” he murmured. “And yet the sun never reaches the horizon.”
Cineris lingered a few steps behind, studying the thin line where the sky met the water.
“Where does the world really end?”
Scriptorath walked to the balustrade and rested his gaze where the sky seemed to come to rest upon the sea.
“What you’re looking at is called the horizon.”
Auryn tilted his head.
“Is it the edge of the world?”
The old Archivist smiled.
“No.”
He lifted his eyes toward the distant line.
“It is the edge of our sight.”
“I reached it once!” Pyrion declared proudly. “I flew for an entire morning. It was right there in front of me!”
Auryn spun around.
“Really?”
Scriptorath smiled.
“And where was it when you stopped?”
Pyrion looked out across the sea.
“A little farther on...”
The Master watched the colours merge into one another.
“The horizon has a gift. It walks beside those who keep searching for it.”
Auryn fell silent.
He turned once more toward the distant line.
“So no one can ever reach it.”
Scriptorath slowly shook his head.
“It is not a destination.”
A brief silence.
“Then what is it?” Auryn asked.
The old Archivist smiled.
“An invitation to keep going.”
The sun had already disappeared.
Yet a slender ribbon of light still lingered across the horizon, setting the sky aglow.
Auryn watched it for a little while longer.
Perhaps Scriptorath was right.
The world did not end where sight came to an end.
That was precisely where it continued.
Dragon Lexicon
Horizon (n.)
Presence:
Recognizing that the world is always greater than what we are able to see.
Integrity:
Continuing to seek even when the destination seems to move farther away.
Threshold:
Welcoming the unknown as an invitation rather than a limit.
The Archivist’s Note
It is said that no one remembers who first began the Calendar of Mists. Its earliest pages were already ancient when the Seventh Wing of the Archive was built.
Among its oldest entries, one can still be read:
“A young dragon set out to reach the horizon. He returned with far more questions than he had taken with him.”
Since then, no Keeper has ever considered correcting it.
Some say it is the only mistake the Archive has deliberately chosen to preserve.

The Horizon
Across the golden sea it shone,
so close it seemed, yet always gone.
The little dragon spread his wings,
chasing the line of distant things.
With every step and every flight,
it drifted farther from his sight.
Then smiling at the open sky,
he understood the reason why:
Those who seek the horizon
have already found it.
